Flight schools for the training of pilots of air sports equipment; application for approval
Ultralight aircraft, hang gliders, paragliders, jump parachutes and gliders are combined into the aircraft class of air sports equipment. Flight schools for the training of air sports equipment pilots must be approved.
Description
In order to be allowed to train air sports equipment pilots, flight schools need a permit according to § 28 Ordinance on Aviation Personnel (LuftPersV). The approval of the flight school for the training of air sports equipment pilots can be applied for at the following associations:
- for ultralight aircraft: Deutscher Aero Club e.V. (DAeC); Deutscher Ultraleichtflugverband e.V. (DULV)
- for hang gliders, paragliders: German Hang Gliding Association (DHV)
- for parachutes: German Aero Club e.V. (DAeC); German Parachuting Association e.V. (DFV)
- for paragliders: German Aero Club e.V. (DAeC); German Hanggliding Association e.V. (DHV)
Prerequisites
The application for approval of a training facility for the training of air sports equipment pilots must contain:
- Declaration of ongoing investigation or criminal proceedings and that a certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30 BZRG has been applied for submission to the competent authority,
- in the case of legal entities and partnerships, also the name and address of the persons authorized to represent them.
Procedure
The application must be submitted to the relevant association. The following information must be provided.
- Name and address of the training institution;
- Intended start date of the training activity;
- Name, address and telephone number of the instructor and flight instructors, indicating their qualifications;
- Name and address of the airfield;
- List of aircraft to be used at the training facility, indicating aircraft class/type and, if applicable, type, registration in the aircraft register, owner, category of airworthiness certificate;
- Type of training to be conducted at the facility (theoretical training, flight training, ratings);
- Information on insurance of aircraft and trainees;
- Information on full or part-time operation of the training facility;
- Statement on the accuracy of the information provided and on the conduct of the training in accordance with the relevant regulations.

including any synthetic flight training devices (if applicable), stating: Aircraft class/type and if applicable, registration in the aircraft register, holder, category of airworthiness certificate;
Fees
- Information on the costs incurred for the registration of the training institution should be obtained from the relevant association.
