Agriculture; application for compensatory allowance for disadvantaged areas

In the less-favored areas, farmers receive a compensatory allowance for income disadvantages due to natural unfavorable site conditions or other specific production disadvantages. The payments are intended to contribute to the continuation of agriculture in these areas and to the preservation of the landscape as well as to promote sustainable farming methods.

Description

Purpose

Maintaining comprehensive land management and cultivating the cultural landscape is indispensable for the attractiveness of rural areas. Due to its natural features, the Free State has an above-average tourism potential compared to the rest of Germany. Sustainable tourism would be inconceivable without an intact natural landscape that can be used for leisure and recreation.

Due to climatic and topographical conditions, more than half of the agricultural land in Bavaria belongs to the naturally disadvantaged areas. More than half of all Bavarian farms operate on these areas.

In many cases, the cessation of land cultivation would lead to undesirable impairments of the landscape with effects on the natural attractiveness and ecology of the affected areas.

Bavaria therefore grants the compensatory allowance (AGZ) in disadvantaged areas.
