Non-governmental theaters; application for funding.
The Free State of Bavaria grants subsidies for the institutional support of professional and nationally significant theaters and other institutions in the field of the performing arts with headquarters and performance areas in Bavaria, which perform dramatic, musical or choreographic stage works primarily with artists employed by them.
Description
As part of the funding of non-governmental theaters and other institutions in the field of the performing arts, grants are awarded to professional, independently operated theaters and theater groups to cover ongoing operating costs to the extent that these cannot be covered by their own income or other third-party grants.
Not eligible for funding are: Investments, individual theater productions, cabaret, circus, amateur theaters and theater groups, facilities that are predominantly operated by third parties, facilities with headquarters and theater operations in Munich, and facilities whose main purpose is not in the theatrical field.
Prerequisites
In principle, facilities can be included in the funding under the following conditions:
- Independent professional operation,
- at least 100 self-produced theater performances and at least four new productions per year with year-round operation; in the case of private sponsorship, 100 self-produced theater performances and two new productions per year are sufficient; in the case of children's and youth theaters that also offer a range of theater educational events, 100 self-produced performances and one new production per year are sufficient;
- at least 30 self-produced theater performances and at least two new productions per year at theater festivals,
- own professional ensemble (i.e. that, in addition to permanent staff, mainly artistic members are employed on the basis of at least production-related play contracts with corresponding social security obligations; the size of the permanent ensemble is to be taken into account in the assessment of the grant),
- special, supra-regional significance,
- successful operation for at least five years,
- appropriate municipal support for theater operations.
Procedure
The theater operators of non-governmental theaters with their own fixed venue shall submit a written grant application with all documents required for the assessment (application forms, economic or budget plan, information on the performance schedule, etc.) to the State Ministry of Science and the Arts by April 1 of the current budget year at the latest.
The sponsors of other institutions in the field of the performing arts shall submit a written grant application with all documents required for the assessment (application forms, economic or budget plan, information on the performance schedule, etc.) to the district government locally responsible for their seat or venue by January 20 of the current financial year at the latest.
The governments review the applications and submit a funding proposal to the State Ministry for Science and the Arts by April 1 of the current budget year.
The State Ministry for Science and the Arts decides on the distribution of the expenditure funds for funding to the individual institutions or district governments.
The State Ministry of Science and the Arts is the granting authority for non-governmental theaters and festivals within the meaning of the funding program; the district governments are the granting authorities for other institutions in the field of the performing arts.
