Private schools; application for a grant for free learning materials.

Private school boards that provide their students with free learning materials for textbooks receive state subsidies.

Grants are intended to assist private sponsors of school expenses in financing textbooks.

Private substitute schools are free to grant freedom of learning materials. If free learning materials are granted in the same way as at public schools, they receive state funding accordingly.

Type and amount

The state grants lump-sum allocations per pupil and school year of €12 or €26.67, depending on the type of school, and €18 or €40 for private elementary school, secondary schools and special schools. The subsidy is calculated on the basis of the official number of pupils in the previous school year.

Private substitute schools that grant free learning materials as at public schools can receive corresponding grants.

Granting of free learning materials as at public schools, i.e. (free) provision of textbooks to students.

The cost bearers of the substitute schools submit the applications to the State Office for Schools by June 1 of each year for the upcoming school year using the form provided.

The State Office of Schools reviews the submitted applications and determines the amount of state grants for each applicant.

If applications are received by the deadline, two-thirds of the grants are disbursed to the expense sponsors of the private schools at the beginning of the school year and the remaining third is disbursed during the second half of the school year.

Applications must be submitted (no later than) June 1 of each year for the upcoming school year.

Processing time

If applications are received on time, two-thirds of the grants will be paid to the private schools' cost bearers at the beginning of the school year and the remaining third during the second half of the school year.
