Nutrient balance; preparation of a nutrient comparison
The nutrient balance, also called field-stable balance or nutrient comparison, is the comparison of nutrient supply and nutrient removal on the agricultural land of a farm. Every farmer (except small farms) who applies significant amounts of nutrients to a field must calculate the nutrient balance annually.
Description
The basis for a long-term healthy development of the farm and the environment is the optimal use of nutrients on the farm. To this end, the farm's nutrient cycle of nutrient supply and nutrient removal must be as balanced as possible. In order to check whether the nutrients flow without errors and losses, the Fertilizer Ordinance and the Fertilizer Act prescribe the balancing of nutrient flows.
As a rule, every farmer with more than 10 ha of UAA must calculate the field-stable balance, also known as the area balance, annually in accordance with the Fertilizer Ordinance. By 31 March of each year at the latest, the nutrient comparison for the past fertilization year must be prepared. The Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture therefore provides farmers with the free program "Nährstoffbilanz Bayern" (Bavarian Nutrient Balance).
In the event of a farm inspection for nitrogen and phosphate, the nutrient balance for the past fertilisation year must be prepared, printed out and filed.
Deadlines
The nutrient comparison for the past fertilisation year must be drawn up by 31 March each year at the latest.
