Environmental engineering professions; application for determination of equivalence of a foreign qualification.
The environmental engineering professions and the corresponding master craftsman training courses are not regulated. However, you can apply for a determination of equivalence of a foreign qualification.
Description
If you have acquired your qualification to work in public water supply, wastewater drainage or disposal, or waste management abroad and would like to perform responsible activities as a specialist or master in the environmental engineering professions, you can apply for the determination of the equivalence of your qualification.
Environmental engineering professions are:
- Specialist for water supply technology
- Specialist for wastewater technology
- Specialist for recycling and waste management
- Specialist for pipe, sewer and industrial services
- Certified water master
- Certified wastewater master craftsman
- Certified master craftsman for recycling and waste management and urban cleaning
- Certified master craftsman for pipe, sewer and industrial services
Prerequisites
You can apply for an equivalence determination in accordance with the Berufsqualifikationsfeststellungsgesetz (Vocational Qualifications Determination Act) if you have
- have successfully completed vocational training abroad and - in the area of regulated professions - are authorized to practice the profession in the country of training, and
- intend to pursue gainful employment in Bavaria.
An application can be submitted regardless of citizenship and residence status.
Sufficient German language skills are also expected for the exercise of the profession.
Here, the requirements that the applicant must fulfill must be indicated.
Procedure
Before submitting a written application to the Bavarian School of Administration, we recommend that you have a consultation in advance and then submit your application for recognition! This will help you avoid mistakes in the application and delays in processing. The following points will be clarified during the counseling interview:
- Is my chosen profession correct?
- Recognition as a skilled worker or master craftsman?
- How does the recognition procedure work?
- Which documents do I have to submit and in which form?
- What alternatives are there if necessary documents are not available?
- Are there alternatives to recognition for me?
- What can I do if I do not receive recognition?
- What are the possibilities for qualification?
Do you already have some documents in German? Then please bring them with you. During the consultation, you will find out whether you need to have additional documents translated for your application.
The application must then be submitted informally to the Bavarian School of Administration in writing and with the required documents.
The Bavarian School of Administration will decide on the application as the responsible body.
Special notes
The areas of water supply technology and wastewater technology also include the "electrician for specified activities in environmental technology occupations". Here, too, proof of an equivalent qualification is required.
Please note that this occupation requires sufficient knowledge of German to distinguish between requirement, recommendation, permissibility and possibility. The qualification of master craftsmen/mistresses includes the ability to train the corresponding skilled workers.
Processing time
As a rule, the recognition procedure is completed in three months. Missing proofs and documents lead to delays.
