The Bayerische Ärzteversorgung grants pension benefits in old age, in the event of occupational disability and to surviving dependents. For this purpose, it requires certain information from the new member.


The Bayerische Ärzteversorgung (BÄV) is a public law institution with administrative autonomy and has the task of providing for its members in old age and in the event of occupational disability, as well as for the member's surviving dependents. The BÄV is responsible for

  • physicians in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate (former administrative districts of Pfalz and Rheinhessen)
  • dentists in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate (former administrative district of Palatinate)
  • veterinarians in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

The management and representation of the pension fund is the responsibility of the Bayerische Versorgungskammer.

The pension scheme is part of the statutory pension scheme and thus the first pillar of old-age provision.

Membership is by operation of law (compulsory membership). The Bayerische Ärzteversorgung is informed by the professional chambers (e.g. Bayerische Landesärztekammer) about new members joining and leaving the chamber due to legal reporting obligations. In order to fulfill its tasks, the Bavarian Medical Pension Fund requires the information and evidence specified in the membership survey form. The members are obliged to cooperate.

Based on the information provided in the membership survey form, any exceptions or exemptions from compulsory membership in accordance with the statutes can be checked. Members are obliged to inform the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung of any changes in their circumstances.

Members of the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung acquire their pension entitlement by paying compulsory contributions and/or voluntary additional payments.


Requirements for mandatory membership:

  • Approbation or professional license
  • No occupational disability
  • Professional activity in the area of responsibility of the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung.


At the beginning of membership in the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung, the new member must complete the membership survey form and send it to the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung. The completed "Membership Survey Form" (see under "Forms") can be sent by mail or electronically (see under "Online Procedure").

The member will then receive a membership notice by mail from Bayerische Ärzteversorgung. The membership notification is also available to members for retrieval after registration in our online portal BÄV24.
