The Bayerische Ärzteversorgung (BÄV) is an institution under public law with administrative autonomy and has the task of providing for its members in old age and in the event of occupational disability as well as for the member's surviving dependants. The BÄV is responsible for
- Doctors in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate (former administrative districts of Palatinate and Rheinhessen)
- Dentists in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate (former administrative district of Palatinate)
- Veterinarians in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
The Bayerische Versorgungskammer is responsible for the management and representation of the pension fund.
The pension fund is part of the statutory pension scheme and thus the first pillar of old-age provision.
Membership is by law (compulsory membership). The Bayerische Ärzteversorgung is informed by the professional chambers (e.g. Bayerische Landesärztekammer) about new members and departures from the chamber due to statutory reporting obligations. In order to fulfill its duties, the Bayerische Ärzteversorgung requires the information and evidence specified in the membership survey form. Members are obliged to cooperate.
On the basis of the information provided in the membership survey form, any statutory exceptions or exemptions from compulsory membership can be checked. Members are obliged to inform Bayerische Ärzteversorgung of any changes in their circumstances.
Members of Bayerische Ärzteversorgung acquire their pension entitlement by paying compulsory contributions and/or voluntary additional payments.
