Private secondary and vocational schools; application for financial aid for construction measures

Sponsors of private secondary schools, grammar schools, Waldorf schools (from year 5), vocational schools and secondary schools can receive voluntary state grants for necessary construction measures approved by the school authorities.



Among other things:

  • State approval of the school; in the case of state approval, the requirements of Art. 45 Para. 2 BaySchFG must be met,
  • School authorities that are operated by legal entities under public or private law must provide proof of non-profit status (certificate from the tax office),
  • Construction has not yet begun,
  • necessity of the measure,
  • school supervisory approval of the room program,
  • school supervisory approval of the concrete planning,
  • Securing in rem of any claims for repayment for the duration of the earmarking of the grant (usually 25 years).
  • When awarding contracts to fulfill the purpose of the grant, the provisions of public procurement law must be complied with.


The application must be submitted in writing to the local government with all the necessary documents. After review, the government will decide whether to approve a voluntary government grant.

Special notes

If you are planning/intend to carry out a construction project, please contact your local government as soon as possible to avoid errors or deficiencies in the application process. A proper application usually leads to a shorter processing time.

Funding is provided in accordance with the state budget; there is no entitlement to funding.


Applications for funding can be submitted all year round. Construction work may not be started without prior approval from the government. Otherwise the approval of grants in accordance with Art. 43 BaySchFG is no longer possible.

Processing time

Approx. 6 months for simple construction measures, longer processing times are possible in individual cases for larger/more extensive measures.
