Cultivation of renewable raw materials; information

Renewable raw materials (biomass) are organic substances that are mostly produced by agriculture and forestry, such as wood, flax, rapeseed, sugars and starch from beets, etc.. They also include straw, liquid manure, dung, wood residues, plant components and biowaste.

Description

Renewable raw materials are increasingly attracting the attention of consumers, entrepreneurs and politicians: as a classic building material, as a starting product for innovative composite materials - and above all because of their importance for energy use. Traditionally, it is mainly wood, residues and waste that are used as biomass for energy purposes. More and more, however, energy crops (canola, corn) are being grown explicitly for the purpose of being used as energy sources. Energy crops are a valuable and renewable resource obtained through the management of natural resources. Energy crops should be grown in a sustainable and environmentally sound manner and used sparingly and efficiently. In the course of processing, biomass can be converted into solid (e.g. wood pellets), liquid (e.g. biodiesel) or gaseous (biogas) form.

The Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture, the Technology and Promotion Center at the Competence Center for Renewable Resources, and C.A.R.M.E.N. e.V. offer comprehensive consulting services. Individual measures can also be subsidized.
