In cooperation with the relevant specialists in the Bavarian police force, it investigates, for example, attacks on important sectors of the economy or proceedings in the area of organized cybercrime.
In coordination with the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice, the Central Office is also responsible for non-prosecution-related issues in the area of cybercrime. Finally, the employees of the Central Office support the Bavarian judiciary in education and training in the area of cybercrime.
For particularly complex or technically difficult cases in the area of child pornography and sexual abuse on the Internet, the Center for Combating Child Pornography and Sexual Abuse on the Internet (ZKI) was established as a special organizational unit under the umbrella of the Bavarian Central Office for Cybercrime on October 1, 2020.
On October 1, 2022, the task force "Cyber Attacks on Companies and Institutions" was established at the Central Office for Cybercrime Bavaria to further intensify the fight against this form of crime.
Also on October 1, 2022, particularly complex proceedings in the area of cybercrime, for which the regional courts are responsible in the first instance, were bundled Bavaria-wide at the Bamberg Regional Court. This is intended to speed up proceedings and further increase the quality of justice with specialized knowledge.
