On January 1 of each year, the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Construction and Transport and the district governments recruit university graduates and professionals with a Bachelor's or Dipl.-Ing. (FH) degree in technical subjects related to construction for entry-level civil service careers at the third qualification level in the following specialist areas

  • Structural and urban engineering (e.g. with a degree in architecture)
  • Mechanical engineering (e.g. with a degree in supply engineering or mechanical engineering with a comparable focus)
  • Electrical engineering (e.g. with a degree in electrical engineering or information technology)
  • Road and civil engineering, traffic management (e.g. with a degree in civil engineering, traffic engineering)
  • Water management
  • Technical environmental protection
  • Nature conservation and landscape management

For entry-level civil service careers at the fourth qualification level, the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Construction and Transport and the district governments recruit university graduates and professionals with a Master's degree or Dipl.-Ing. (Univ.) as junior staff on October 1 of each year for the following subject areas

  • Building construction and urban planning (e.g. with a degree in architecture)
  • Mechanical engineering (e.g. with a degree in supply engineering or mechanical engineering with a comparable focus)
  • Electrical engineering (e.g. with a degree in electrical engineering or information technology)
  • Road and civil engineering, traffic management (e.g. with a degree in civil engineering, traffic engineering)

The preparatory service is carried out as a civil servant on a revocable basis as a candidate or trainee. The duration including the examination period is 15 months or 26 months. You will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with your future duties under the supervision of qualified instructors. Seminars alternate with periods of practical training. The training is supplemented by periods of work shadowing at relevant specialist authorities.

During the preparatory service, you will be paid a salary in accordance with the Bavarian salary scale. Successful completion of the program (qualification examination) enables the student to be appointed as a probationary civil servant and later for life.
