Certificate of good conduct; application for a European certificate of good conduct
The European certificate of good conduct does not have to be applied for. When a certificate of good conduct is issued to nationals of other EU Member States, the entries in the criminal record of the Member State of origin are included in full.
Description
In the case of applications for the issuance of a simple or extended certificate of good conduct, the respective member state of origin is requested to provide information on entries in the criminal record of the member state of origin in the case of nationals of other member states of the European Union.
If the Member State of origin notifies entries in the criminal record, these shall be recorded in full and in the language transmitted, provided that the Member State of origin provides for transmission in accordance with its law. Neither a translation nor a review of the content of the information provided shall be carried out.
If the Member State of origin does not provide information from its criminal record, this will be indicated in the certificate of good conduct.
Prerequisites
- completion of the 14th year of life
- in the event of legal incapacity, the application must be submitted by the legal representative, if applicable
Processing time
The European Certificate of Good Conduct should be issued no later than 20 working days after the request from the registering authority has been sent to the Member State of origin.

Fees
13.00 EUR
Exemption from fees: In case of indigence (e.g. recipients of unemployment benefit II, social welfare recipients, recipients of child supplement according to § 6a Federal Child Benefit Act) or if the certificate of good conduct is required for a special purpose. This is assumed to be the case if the certificate of good conduct is required for a voluntary activity in a non-profit or comparable institution (for exemption from fees, see also "Further links").
If the application is submitted electronically, proof of indigence must be provided electronically.
