The State Ministries of the Interior and Education and Cultural Affairs recommend that local authorities employ crossing guards and school route assistants, and that the authorities responsible for school transport employ school bus crossing guards and school bus assistants.
The school transport services are set up by the municipalities and the authorities responsible for transporting schoolchildren on their own responsibility. Several municipalities or authorities responsible for school transport can set up a joint school transport service. Before setting up a school transport service, the school, the parents' council, the local traffic safety officer, the police and the local traffic watch must be consulted. The Landesverkehrswacht Bayern e. V. and the local traffic watch groups will support the local authorities and, as far as possible, provide the necessary equipment.
Schoolchildren can be deployed as crossing guards and school bus crossing guards. Suitable adults are being sought to volunteer as school crossing guards or school bus attendants.
School bus helpers or school bus attendants receive weatherproof yellow warning clothing and a trowel so that they can be recognized as such.
An appreciation of the activity can take place in the context of school events or similar in a suitable way. You may also receive an expense allowance from the municipality for your voluntary work.
During the activity itself, as well as on the direct way to your place of work and back, school route helpers or school bus attendants enjoy legal accident insurance protection. This insurance is free of charge.
