Avalanche warning service tasks; organization and coordination
The organization and coordination of avalanche warning tasks is the responsibility of the safety and disaster control authorities (municipalities, district offices, district governments of Upper Bavaria and Swabia) with the cooperation of the avalanche warning center.
In Bavaria, the so-called avalanche commissions advise the safety authorities (municipalities and district offices). The avalanche commissions are made up of local experts with mountain experience who meet as needed to assess the current weather, snowpack and avalanche situation and to draw up appropriate recommendations for avalanche safety measures (e.g. closing roads and ski slopes or artificially triggering avalanches). The safety authorities decide on the implementation of the measures.
The daily avalanche situation report for the Bavarian alpine region is compiled and published by the avalanche warning center at the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, where the information from a network of measuring and observation stations is collected.
More information about the Bavarian avalanche warning service can be found on the website of the avalanche warning service (for link, see "Related links").
