Start-up in the field of digitalization; application for start-up grant funding

The Free State of Bavaria supports technology-oriented start-ups in the field of digitization.


Purpose and object

Start?grant! aims to provide uncomplicated support to founders in the initial phase and is intended to contribute to the establishment of young, innovative start-ups on the market. The program supports technology-oriented start-ups in the field of digitization.


Technology-oriented start-ups with a particularly future-proof, innovative business model in the field of digitization, whose foundation dates back a maximum of 2 years (the relevant deadline for applications) and who have successfully participated in the competition (see under "Requirements" and "Procedure").

Eligible expenses

The start-up costs of the start-up, in particular the expenses for personnel, rent, market launch of the product and research & development, are eligible for funding.

Type and amount

Funding is provided in the form of partial financing through grants as part of project funding. The grant amounts to 50% of the eligible expenses, but up to a maximum of EUR 36,000 in a funding period of twelve months.
Funding is provided in accordance with the de minimis regulation.


The possibility to apply for funding requires mandatory successful participation in the previous competition, i.e. if the application was selected for funding by an external jury.


The procedure is 2-stage:

  • 1st stage: Competition procedure
    Submit your online application to the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs via the portal during the competition period.
    The applications are evaluated by an external jury and the start-ups are selected for funding.
  • Stage 2: Funding application procedure
    The selected applicants are notified and submit the online funding application to the relevant government.


The competition's funding calls are generally made twice a year and published on the "Gründerland Bayern" website (for link, see "Related links").

The deadlines for the funding application process with the governments are communicated in the notice of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs to the selected start-ups.

Required documents

  • The following documents must be submitted with the grant application:

    • for legal forms of enterprises that are not registered in the Commercial Register: Business registration
    • for legal forms of companies registered in the Commercial Register (HRB): Extract from the HRB
    • in the case of further public subsidies in accordance with the de minimis regulation: corresponding certificate(s)
