Interpreters and translators at public authorities and courts; request for temporary registration in the database of interpreters and translators by EU citizens
Interpreters and translators can register in the Interpreter and Translator Database. This database is the basis for courts and authorities when searching for interpreting and translation services.
Description
Interpreters and translators who are citizens of a state of the European Union or the EEA may be publicly appointed and sworn in under the same conditions as German citizens. This requires, in particular, the passing of an examination conducted by the State Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs or the recognition of their qualification as equivalent.
Interpreters and translators who are established in another EU or EEA member state and who wish to work in Germany only temporarily can also be entered in the database under the conditions listed below.
Prerequisites
Interpreters and translators working only temporarily in Germany will be entered in the database of interpreters and translators if the activity or training for this activity is regulated in the country of establishment or if they prove that they have worked as court or official interpreters in their country of establishment for at least one year during the previous ten years. This proof must be provided to the President of the Munich I Regional Court. The registration in the database expires after twelve months if it is not applied for again.
