Studies in civil service; information about the department of finance (specialization in public finance)

The course of studies in public finance leading to the degree "Diplom-Verwaltungswirt/-in" is characterized by the efficient combination of theoretical education (university studies) and practical training in public finance administration.

Description

Civil servants who have entered the third qualification level in the specialist career path of administration and finance with a focus on state financial administration usually work at one of the offices of the State Office of Finance. This office is responsible, among other things, for the remuneration of all active civil servants and the provision of pensions for the state's retirees, as well as for setting salaries for employees (salary offices). Another focus is the provision of legal advice to public authorities and the representation of the state in legal disputes (Fiskalat). The qualification obtained also offers the possibility of employment with numerous special authorities such as the administration of the State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, the State Lottery Administration and Immobilen Bayern (property administration). The course therefore deals primarily with civil service, pension, salary and collective bargaining law, budgetary law, cash management and accounting, administrative law and civil law. Skills such as communication, conflict resolution, time management, etc. are also included in the catalog of subjects. In addition, intensive instruction is given in the IT procedures used and application-oriented programming skills are taught.

Training begins annually on October 1. The recruitment figures are based on the needs of the State Finance Administration. More information on the content and course of the program, the hiring authorities and the application process can be found on the Internet (see "Further links").
