Elementary and middle schools, special schools and vocational schools; free application

You can apply as a teacher at elementary and middle schools, special schools, and vocational schools with the relevant government.

Description

Teachers who have passed their state examinations in Bavaria and are not on a waiting list, as well as applicants from outside Bavaria who have a recognized teaching qualification, may apply for employment as teachers at elementary and middle schools, special schools and vocational schools with the responsible government.

Free applicants are applicants who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union or who are no longer on a waiting list in Bavaria (even with a Bavarian state examination), who have initially waived employment after successfully completing a second qualification, or who complete an adaptation course in accordance with § 11 EGRiLV-Lehrer and wish to be employed in the state school service of the Free State of Bavaria.

Applicants for the state school service who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union will receive, together with the recognition of the teaching qualification or the reference to a necessary subsequent qualification, a comparative grade which is decisive for future employment.

With this grade, the applicant then competes with teachers in Bavaria who have completed their training in the year of the requested employment.

For state elementary and middle schools and special schools, the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs determines the applicable hiring grades each year before the start of the hiring campaign (announcement: around mid-July on the State Ministry's website).

For vocational schools, a direct recruitment process takes place first, followed by an assignment process for hiring. The hiring grade results in the conclusion from this procedure. Applicants with a comparative grade lower than 3.50 are currently not eligible to participate in the recruitment procedure for the state school service.

Prerequisites

Teachers who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union must have their teaching qualification recognized for Bavaria before possibly participating in the recruitment process. The Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs is responsible for this.

For teachers who are permanently employed in the state school service of the respective country of origin during the current school year, the prior approval of the teacher for the desired hiring date by the personnel management authority of the country of origin is an absolute prerequisite for participation in the hiring process in Bavaria. In this context, it should be noted for teachers with civil servant status that immediate or future civil servant status in Bavaria is not guaranteed. Applicants who intend to return to their country of origin at a later date should obtain precise information from their current employer in this regard.

Procedure

The application for employment must be sent to the competent authority together with all necessary documents. The governments are the responsible hiring authorities in the case of a request for employment in Bavaria for teachers at elementary and middle schools, subject teachers and support teachers.

A decision on whether to forward your application to the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs can only be made once the aforementioned documents have been received.

Free applications from special education teachers should be sent to the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Department III.6. The required form will be provided by the State Ministry upon request.

Free applicants are also generally included in the procedure for recruiting teachers throughout Bavaria in line with demand. Therefore, it is not guaranteed that a positive free application will guarantee employment in the district in which the application is submitted.

Teachers who received an offer of employment in a previous recruitment process and were included in the needs-based teacher recruitment process, but did not accept the offer of employment, will be assigned to the government district in which they did not begin service if they reapply (even if they apply to another government district). If these teachers limit their application to another governmental district, they will not be able to participate in the recruitment process.

If they wish to work at vocational schools, free applicants with a teaching qualification at vocational schools or (for work at technical and vocational secondary schools or business schools) with a teaching qualification at grammar schools send their application directly to the State Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs. In the direct application procedure, they also apply to the schools for which positions are advertised.

Special notes

Prior to employment in the Bavarian school service, in particular as a civil servant, a check of health suitability must be carried out.

It is pointed out that, if the other requirements under civil service law are met, appointment as a civil servant is generally only possible before the age of 45 (Art. 23 Para. 1 BayBG, Art. 48 BayHO).

Deadlines

In the area of elementary and middle schools as well as specialist and support teachers, applications received by the government by May 20 of the respective year can be considered.

In the area of special schools (teaching profession for special education), applications received by the State Ministry by May 15 of the respective year can be considered.

In the area of vocational schools, the direct application procedure usually begins at the end of April and lasts until mid-June. Applications received by the State Ministry by June 30 of the respective year may be considered for the assignment procedure.

Except for temporary contracts, hiring occurs only at the beginning of the new school year.

After the hiring scores are announced, applicants will be notified in writing by the hiring government by early August.
