Wastewater disposal via small wastewater treatment plants; notification of the test result
Small wastewater treatment plants on one's own property must be regularly inspected by a recognized private expert. The test result must be reported to the lower water rights authority.
Description
State-of-the-art small wastewater treatment plants usually consist of a mechanical treatment stage and a downstream biological wastewater treatment stage. The wastewater is first fed into a pit in which the solid contents settle; the dissolved organic contents are degraded by microorganisms in a downstream biological treatment stage. If, in individual cases, more extensive purification requirements have to be met (e.g. nitrogen elimination, phosphorus elimination, wastewater hygienization), more elaborate small wastewater treatment plants must be constructed and operated.
Small wastewater treatment plants on one's own property are usually built and operated by the house or property owner. In order to guarantee a good cleaning performance in the long run, it is necessary to maintain and monitor the small wastewater treatment plants regularly. Often - especially in the case of technically more complex systems - this task is assigned to specialist companies within the framework of a maintenance contract. The fecal sludge from the mechanical treatment stage must be disposed of properly on a regular basis.
Every 2 years (4 years for plants without deficiencies at the last monitoring), small wastewater treatment plants must be inspected by a recognized private expert in water management (PSW); the inspection result must be certified to the lower water rights authority (district administrative authority).
