Supported employment; application
Since January 2009, severely disabled people have a legal entitlement to Supported Employment. Supported employment is an outpatient offer - effective on site, in the companies - for people with disabilities with special support needs. The aim is long-term employment in companies subject to social insurance contributions - i.e. on the general, regular labour market.
Supported employment initially consists of a phase of individual in-company qualification, i.e. learning and practising on and for the job. The goal is the conclusion of an employment contract. If required, this is followed by vocational guidance - i.e. support according to personal requirements, while the job is carried out independently and embedded in company processes. The in-company qualification is designed as a rehabilitation measure and lasts up to 2 years. The services are provided by a rehabilitation agency if it is responsible, otherwise by the Inclusion Office. During the period of in-company qualification, people with disabilities are covered by social insurance in the same way as participants in other vocational preparation measures; afterwards, they are covered in the same way as any other employee.
The target group for Supported Employment are school leavers with disabilities who, on the one hand, would be overtaxed by directly following vocational training, but who, on the other hand, do not require support in a workshop for people with disabilities. In addition, people should be reached who only later - in the course of their (working) life - experience a disability.
