Motor vehicle license plates; application for replacement in case of theft, loss or illegibility
If you have lost a license plate of your vehicle, it was stolen from you or it is illegible, you must apply for the assignment of a new license plate.
If you have lost one or both of your vehicle's license plates, they have been stolen from you, or they are no longer legible, a new license plate must be assigned. The stolen or lost license plate will not be issued again for at least 10 years and will be marked with a search notice.
This is the only way to prevent you from being charged if third parties use your old license plates to commit misdemeanors or crimes.
You may not operate your vehicle without license plates.
