Protection of historical monuments; application for a grant from the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege (State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments)
Grants can be awarded by the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments for monument preservation measures on architectural and archaeological monuments as well as movable monuments.
Description
Without prejudice to existing obligations, the Free State of Bavaria shall contribute to the costs of the protection and preservation of monuments, in particular to the costs of repairing, preserving, securing and exposing monuments that are not owned by the Free State of Bavaria, in the amount of the respective funds shown in the state budget. This cost sharing takes place through the granting of subsidies, which benefit private individuals as well as local authorities, other corporations or church foundations.
However, there is no legal entitlement to funding; the decision is made on the basis of dutiful discretion.
The amount of the contribution depends on the additional costs incurred for the preservation of the monument (costs incurred that exceed the usual preservation costs), the importance and urgency of the case and the owner's ability to pay.
Funding is provided in the form of fixed-amount financing.
Prerequisites
Applications should be submitted as early as possible to the relevant lower monument protection authority (district office, independent city, large district town, some other municipalities belonging to the district) on the forms available there.
Without exception, the application for funding must be submitted before the start of the funded measure, just as the funded measure itself must have been coordinated with the monument protection authority (the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments) before it is carried out.
The coordination is expediently carried out at the regular office days of the State Office for Monument Preservation at the lower monument protection authorities. There, the applicant also receives the building permit or monument protection permit required for the repair or modification of a monument; even if a building permit is not required, every measure on a monument requires monument protection permit.
Deadlines
The construction and restoration measure for which a grant is requested may not be started until the grant has been approved, unless the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments has expressly declared its approval of the early start of construction.
