Description
The hunting license and the falconer's hunting license are documents with which the holder proves his right to hunt. They are issued by the lower hunting authority responsible for the applicant's place of residence (the district administrative authority) as a one-year, three-year or one-day hunting license for 14 consecutive days.
The hunting license can be purchased by those who have reached the age of 18.
- Persons who have reached the age of sixteen but have not yet reached the age of eighteen may only be issued a youth hunting license . The application for a youth hunting license requires the consent of the legal representative.
- Youths who have reached the age of 16 may be issued a youth falconry hunting license ; however, they may only engage in falconry when accompanied by a person with hunting experience.
In addition to submitting the application in person to the county administrative authority, it can usually also be submitted to the city or municipality in which the applicant resides, which will forward the documents. Many district administrative authorities also offer the relevant application form on the Internet.
Information on the issuance and renewal of hunting licenses or falconry licenses is provided by the competent lower hunting authorities.
Prerequisites
Reliability and aptitude
A hunting license/ falconry hunting license is to be refused in particular if facts justify the assumption that the applicant does not possess the required reliability or physical aptitude.
The first issuance of a hunting license is generally dependent on the applicant having passed a hunter's examination within the scope of the Federal Hunting Act, which consists of a written, an oral and a practical part. Information on the hunter examination can be found under "Related topics" under "Hunter examination; registration".

In addition to the falconry examination, a restricted hunter examination, i.e. without a shooting examination, is sufficient. Information on the hunter examination can be found under "Related topics" under "Hunter examination; registration".
Hunting liability insurance
The issuance of the hunting license/ falconer's hunting license is dependent on proof of sufficient hunting liability insurance. To this end, the applicant must submit written confirmation from the insurer stating that a hunting liability insurance policy exists with the named insurer for the policyholder to be named, which complies with the statutory provisions (in particular coverage amount). Furthermore, the beginning and duration of the contract or the period of validity of the confirmation must be stated. The period of validity must fully cover the daily, one-year or three-year hunting license applied for.
