Motor vehicle license plates; notification of theft, loss or discovery
If you have lost one or both of your vehicle's license plates, they have been stolen, or they are no longer legible, a new license plate must be assigned.
Description
Only if you report stolen or lost license plates can you be prevented from being charged if third parties use your license plate to commit misdemeanors or crimes.
File a theft report with the police immediately if a license plate is stolen.
Also report the theft, loss or discovery to the relevant registration authority. In the event of loss, the vehicle owner must submit an affirmation in lieu of oath.
In the event of loss or theft, you must also apply to the registration authority for the assignment of a new license plate (see "Motor vehicle license plates; replacement due to theft, loss or discovery" under "Related topics"). You may not operate the vehicle without license plates.
