Protection of historical monuments; advice to owners of historical monuments
Dealing with monuments often poses difficult questions for those concerned. Advising monument owners is one of the most important tasks of the monument authorities.
If you want to or have to carry out measures on a monument, problems of a technical, legal and financial nature have to be solved.
The monument authorities, in particular the lower monument protection authorities (district offices, independent cities and large district towns) and the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments have the task of providing you with comprehensive advice. The advice is not limited to technical matters (e.g. certain restoration methods), but also extends to the permit or building permit procedures and all questions of support through grants or loans from the public sector or through tax benefits.
In appropriate cases, the advice provided by the monument authorities should take place on site, i.e. at or in the monument.
For the preservation of historical monuments, the so-called "Sprechtage" (consultation days) of the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments have proven very successful:
On certain days, the state office's consultants come to a district or an independent city for which they are responsible and, together with the employees of the lower monument protection authority, visit those monument owners who have asked for advice or for whom concrete measures are pending or are currently being carried out. Depending on the situation of the individual case, site inspections outside of office days or meetings at the headquarters of the Lower Monument Protection Authority or at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments may also be considered. For ground monuments, a meeting takes place as required.
In all cases, please first contact your Lower Monument Protection Authority, which will coordinate the appointments with the State Office for Monument Preservation. They will inform you in good time which documents you should bring to your consultation appointment.
Please make use of the consulting services offered by the monument authorities as early as possible in the planning process, but in any case before the start of measures.
- All consulting services of the monument authorities are free of charge.
