Nursing professions; application for permission to use the professional title in the case of a foreign professional qualification

If you wish to work in Germany under the protected professional title of "nursing specialist", "health and children's nurse" or "geriatric nurse", you need a permit.

Description

You need a permit if you want to work under the protected professional title of nursing specialist in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Permission is required for the use of the professional title, but not for the professional activity itself. The protection of the job title also provides a certain degree of protection for the practice of the respective profession, since qualified health care professionals are generally employed. For individual health care professions, the activity as such is also protected in addition to the job title: In the field of nursing specialists, certain activities are reserved for the holders of the permit (so-called reserved activities). The same applies accordingly to the use of the professional title of health and pediatric nurse or geriatric nurse.

Prerequisites

The most important prerequisites are that you have fully completed your vocational or university education (proof) and have passed the final examination.

Procedure

In Bavaria, the Landesamt für Pflege (LfP) is centrally responsible for issuing the professional license. You must apply for the granting of the professional license together with the required documents at the Landesamt für Pflege (LfP).

Special notes

The government of Upper Franconia is exclusively responsible for the recognition as a nursing assistant (not specialist).

- Proof of the equivalence of your level of training or knowledge according to the German training and examination regulations applicable to the respective profession
- on separate request of the recognition body:
  - Language certificate level GER B2
  - Certificate of good conduct
  - medical certificate

Fees

The costs range from 40 to 500 EUR, depending on the effort required in each individual case.

Those interested in recognition who have only limited financial resources of their own can apply for a subsidy for professional recognition.
